Day 63. Rimmel Apocalips Stellar Lip Lacquer [Review & Swatches]

Today review is all for the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer (or Laque à Lèvres) in Stellar, which was one of the purchase from my London Haul.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer is a line of liquid lipstick that wants to somewhat emulate the YSL Vernis à Lèvres (reviews here and here), and in same way it excels in doing so and in some other ways it falls short.

I own one shade of this line, the shade called Stellar, and I am basing my review on this one shade.

Let me start from the packaging. The lipstick comes in a hard plastic tube, similar to the ones used for lip glosses. The main body of the tube is dark, but you can see the color on the bottom, where the plastic is clear.
The applicator is also similar to the one used for lip glosses, but the doe foot is actually concave, supposedly designed to get an even application of product: the lipstick gathers in the little space on the top and is released during application. It doesn't really make a difference for me, since I tend to clean the applicator to leave just the smallest amount to be applied on the lips and do half lip at time. You may find this kind of applicator useful if you apply your gloss or liquid lipstick in one swipe.

The texture of the lipstick is smooth and creamy, but it tends to bleed a bit when applied. You may want to use a transparent lip pencil or a lip pencil similar in shade to your Lip Lacquer to avoid this problem.

It's distinctly lipstick-like in consistency, similar to OCC lip tars or the Sleek Pout Paints, but runnier. In comparison, the YSL Vernis à Lèvres are much more gel-like.

It's not drying on the lips, and has no particular scent.

At first, the Lip Lacquer is very bright and lucid, but it tends to lose shine as the time passes, which does not happen with the YSL Vernis à Lèvres, that stay lucid and shiny for a long time.
It does not dry on the lips as the YSL Vernis do, so aspect your lips to be a little bit creamy and moist when you apply this lipstick. It's not an unpleasant feeling, though.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Stellar (just after application)

As far as I can tell, all the Lip Lacquer shades are fairly pigmented. The shade I own, Stellar, is no different. You need just one coat for have perfect coverage.

Stellar is a crazy shade, a mix between red and fuchsia, with a bit of coral thrown in.
As you may have noticed from the pictures, even in similar light conditions, the color changes a lot. This is one of the things I love most about this shade! In the tube it looks a positively fluorescent dark peach color.

This Apocalips Lip Lacquer shade last about 3/4 hours on me, losing its shine around the second hour, but it stays up to four hours with only minor fading from drinking (cups of tea) and eating (light snack). Today, I applied it around 3pm, and it lasted till dinner (around 7.30), when it disappeared completely.

Overall I am satisfied with this product, and maybe I realize that I was making an unfair comparison to the YSL Vernis à Lèvres. I particularly like Stellar, and I'd like a few more shades (Nova is the first shade that comes to mind). For 5.99£/6.95€/9.05$ (lowest price I have seen in-store in London; it can go up to 7.99£), I think it's a great value for money: you get a comfortable-to-wear, lasting liquid lipstick in crazy shades!
