Generally speaking, the YSL Vernis à Lèvres are a lip product that mixes features of lipstick, gloss and lipstain. The lipstick similarity comes in with pigmentation (intense and opaque) and range of colors. The Vernis is also gloss-like because the color is and stay shiny for a long time, also the texture is similar to the one glosses have, but without being sticky. They are also lip stains, because once they are on, the YSL Vernis à Lèvres stay on and, well, stain the lips. The color intensity is buildable: one coat will give you a nice color, but full intensity needs two coats, just let the first coat set for 30/60 seconds before applying the second one.
It sits well on the lips and it is not drying.
The YSL Vernis à Lèvres #8 (Orange de Chine) is a fantastic brick-red, almost orange, shade.

The color is really intense and pigmented, and it lasts a long time.
Swatch for YSL Vernis à Lèvres #8 |
I applied the Vernis at 9 am with two coats of product, and the result was the one shown in the picture above.
I took the second picture (below) around 11 am, after a cup of coffee and a small snack. As you can see, the Vernis is almost intact.

Last picture was taken around 1 pm, after a light lunch. The product is still there but there's something off about how it looks patchy: basically it moved around and faded a bit during lunch.

After that it lasted until 4 pm, with only the outer edges still on and a light color stain on the rest of the lips.
Overall this is a product I highly recommend: a lip product that delivers intense and shiny color, that lasts a long time without being tacky or uncomfortable. #8 is a fantstic shade if you love orange-y red that can be also worn during the day.
